CS BRANDON 0 TRALEE DYNAMOS 4

Our latest adventure in the Hennebrys Reserve cup took us to the slopes of Mt.Brandon on what was a beautiful morning for a game.

Luckily we did not take too much notice of the scenery and settled into the game from the off. We were quickly into our stride with our midfield four of Ashton, Maurice, James and Philip controling matters.

On 6 minutes our first corner of the game led to our first chance with Pa whipping a great ball into the six yard box which connected with the arm of a Brandon player giving referee John Hegarty no choice but to award the penalty. Philip stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way. (He had told yours truly before the game that he was taking the first penalty no matter what, lucky for him Duzers was absent)

A good start was made even better in the 14 minute when Max won a free kick on the 25 yards from goal. Pa Dalys strike rebounded off the wall but it sat up beautifully for him to rocket a seemingly unstoppable volley towards the top corner only for the keeper to make a fantastic finger tip save.

The resulting corner was not cleared properly and the ball fell to the Goose at the back post who rounded two players before cooly slotting it past the keeper.

By this stage we had full control of the game with our back four of Kenneth Maher, who had a excellent debut at left back, Pa Daly, Brian Fitz and Rob Mugabe who were well on top.

Saying that Brandon never stopped hassling and never stopped trying and they were unlucky not to be back in the game on the 31st minute when Keeper Jonathan Burrows had to be on alert to save full stretch.

This is a tough pitch to try and play good passing football on but thats what we continued to do and we got our third of the half on 39 minutes when some excellent passing across midfield saw the ball switced out to Robson whos deep cross caused the Brandon keeper to fumble the into the path of Goosey who slotted home for his second of the game.

The second half saw us playing uphill and into the sun but this did not deter us from our task and we continued to create chances. With Brian and the rest of the back four imperious at the back we kept Brandon at arms lenght. Max and Niall were very busy up front and gave the opposion backline no end of problems.

Our fouth goal came on the 73rd min when some excellent play from James saw him release Ashton on the right hand side whos jinking run and cross was only cleared to Goose who powered to the end line and sent in a beautiful cross which was begging to be finished. Philip duly obligied and volleyed home from 12 yds to finish the game off.

Brandon had one last chance of a consolation goal but Jonathan was equal to the task and saved well to his right.Another good result especially considering how many players we had missing but our squad stepped up and our cup run continues this weekend away to Iveragh United Caherciveen. Many thanks to the Brandon who are always good sportsmen and they had sandwiches laid on in Murphys bar after the game.

U-12 John Murphy Memorial – Kerry Cup Semi-Final
Kingdom Boys 6 – 3 Park

It was the most talked about match in Tralee this week with the two local rivals battling it out for a place in the Cup Final. Kerry Radio tipsters had the league leaders Park down as Hot Favourites but Kingdom Boys knew that if they stuck to their game plan of playing attractive passing football that they would have the edge over their local rivals.

The Boys started quickest coming close with the first five shots on goal, three going narrowly past the post and two more going straight at the well positioned Park keeper. It was he Park who scored first after the Boys failed to clear their lines and the impressive Michael Slattery fired a looping volley over the helpless Sean Duggan in the Boys goal.

Shortly afterwards Sean made a tremendous save to deny the Park striker a second after he latched onto a long ball. Their next attack saw the Park go 2 up when Slattery again latched onto a long ball to run clear of the defence and slot home his second.

Kingdom Boys rallied and again took control of the game and Kevin Williams fired home after receiving a through ball from Mike Kelliher. 1-2 and the pressure was paying off. Park then scored a hugely controversial third goal when the referee stopped play for an injury and the resulting pass back from Park to Kingdom Boys accidentally ended up in the net. Both sets of supporters felt the kick should have been retaken, however the referee allowed the goal. 1-3.

2 mins later after some nice short passing Kevin broke through the Park defence and fired home his second.2-3.After the next Park attack broke down the talented David O’Connor battled hard to win the ball in his own half, took the ball forward on the left side of mid-field and fired an inch perfect pass to Dillon Robinson who kept cool and finished low into the bottom left corner. 3-3 and no less than the boys deserved after dominating the first half.

The second half started like the first with the Boys taking charge in midfield, however they failed to find the net in the next 10mins and it remained 3-3. It was Park who came closest with Gearoid Sheehan hitting the bar and then firing wide shortly afterwards. Both teams made some positional changes and a substitution to try and break the deadlock and as The Boys defence held strong, Dan Goggin sent Dillon clear to score his second. 4-3 and 10 mins left. The Boys again piled on the pressure and Dillon scored a ‘wonder’ goal, beating 4 players and then in true MESSI style rounded the keeper for his hat-trick. 5-3. There was no stopping the Boys as they pressed home their advantage with Kevin Williams netting a last minute penalty for his hat-trick and a famous victory for Kingdom Boys.

Finally, the coaching staff would like to thank all the Parents, Families and Friends who gave tremendous support to the team in this hard fought match. Also a huge thanks to all the squad for giving 100% tonight. Best of luck to the Park in their upcoming top of the table clash with Killarney Celtic but as for the Boys, its Killorglin in the final another tough challenge for this young team.

Division 1B: Tralee Dynamos 2 Listowel Celtic 0

A very strong Dynamos side proved too good for a hard working Listowel Celtic side. Dynamos started brightly  inside the first 10 minutes creating a number of chances through a Pa Daly free kick just over, then James Sugrue shot was saved by a combination of excellent keeping and the goalpost. Jamie McIntyre was next up to test Dara O’Sé in the Listowel goal with the keeper saving well.

Dynamos enjoyed the lions share of possesion midway through the half moving the ball well all over the park creating a number of chances that led to 6 corners over a few minutes to no avail. On the 43rd minute Dynamos had the ball in the net but referee John Hegarty ruled that the James Wall was in an offside position.

With time almost up Dynamos were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal dead centre of the pitch, up stepped James Sugrue whose excellent side foot effort was heading into the bottom right hand corner only for young Dara O Sé to save brillantly at the foot of the post. Jamie McIntyre had Dynamos last effort before the half that went just wide of the post. Half time ended with Dynamos having 10 shots on target, Listowel Celtic had not managed to get a shot on target but defended gallantly for the 45 minutes.

Dynamos management team of Jason Fitzgerald & Ross O’Connor were not too despondent at the half highlighting a lot of the good work the team had carried out, for the second half they looked for player too take the extra touch and add some patience to the proceedings.

The management got the response that they looked for firstly James Sugrue, Ashton Mugabe linked up with Maurice O’Rahilly who chested the ball down to James Wall whose shot was wide of the target in the 47th minute. Dynamos didn’t have long to wait for the opening goal. Maurice O’Rahilly got on the ball in the middle of the park he spotted the run from his midfield team mate James Sugrue who timed his run to perfection, Rahilly whose ball over the top into the path of Sugrue and with keeper O Sé advancing lobbed the keeper sending the ball into the net a goal richly deserved by the home side.

Ivan Maher replaced the injured Brady in the 51st minute, Maher was a make a significant contribution to his side’s win with a hard working display. Maher got on the ball passing to James Wall whose passed to O’Rahilly who shot over on 52 minutes. Listowel Celtic got their first corner in the 60th minute and despite the good delivery by James McCarthy Dynamos easily cleared. 64 minutes gone on the clock James Wall had a shot on target that O Sé saved in the Celtic goal.

Any team managed by Seanie Lynch will never give up and in the 65th minute they got a break when referee Hegarty deemed that Jerry Kelliher shot on goal was handled by Burrows, penalty Listowel Celtic. James McCarthy took the penalty going to Del O’Shea’s left hand side only for the Dynamos netminder to make a great save. This acted as a wake up call for Dynamos who immediately began to reassert their authority on the game getting on the ball and making the Celtic players work hard to get the ball.

Dynamos introduce Philip Griffin for Ashton Mugabe & Rob Mugabe for the injured Burrows on 76 minutes. Dynamos made the game secure on the 84th minute with Listowel committing numbers of players to the attack Dynamos quickly counter attacked with Maurice O’Rahilly passing to Ivan Maher who got in behind the Listowel high line he exploited the space quickly getting his head up he spotted the inrushing James Wall and with an excellent pass Wall had the simple task of side footing to the net from 10 yards to wrap up all three points for Dynamos and maintain top of the table for Dynamos. Managers Fitzgerald & O’Connor will be happy with the weekend’s work having beaten Fenit on Friday night in the reserve cup.

TOM HAYES UNDER 14 CUP SEMI -FINAL

Inter Kenmare 2 Kingdom Boys 5
Kingdom Boys travelled to Inter Kenmare but this did didn’t deter them. Two goals from Kian Liston and Ferdia O’Brien and one from Stefan Okanbor saw the Tralee side reach the decider. Denis Cronin and Kevin Price replied for Inter.

Fenit 1 – 6 Tralee Dynamos. Dynamos advanced to the next round of the reserve cup, our goal Scorers on the night were David Brady x 3, James Wall x 1, Maurice O’ Rahilly x 1 and Ivan Maher x 1.

Dynamos completed their Under 19 League of Ireland season away to Cobh in St. Colemans Park yesterday.

Cobh went one up with a well worked set piece from a corner despite the best efforts of Scott Monaghan.

Dynamos equalised with the move of the match starting with keeper Paul White who passed to Jonathan Hannafin who played the ball into midfielder Uros Ivkovic whose pass went into striker Darren O’Brien who under pressure toe poked the ball into the box for full back Jonathon Hannafin who beat his defender and was unfairly challenged in the box the result a penalty to Dynamos. Uros Ivkovic expertly placed the penalty into the bottom right hand corner to give Dynamos a deserved equaliser.

That was a good as it got for the visitors as Cobh went on to produce some great football scoring twice more before the break. Dynamos lost the influential Jared O’Sullivan centre back to concussion suffered in an accidental clash with his team mate Shane Carey. We all would like to wish Jared a speedy recovery.

Dynamos introduced Cillian Comerford at the half for Jared O’Sullivan due to the non availability of Adam Piggot (hamstring). From the half time a carnival atmosphere prevailed at Ramblers with the home support knowing the title was 45 minutes away. The Cobh players duly obliged scoring another goal to take a commanding lead in the game.

Great credit is due to this Dynamos team for the manner they played the final 25 minutes every player willing to get on the ball taking responsibility for the team. A special mention should also be given to Robert Prenderville drafted up from the Under 17 team the day before, Robert gave an outstanding performance ove the 90 minutes.

Our heartiest congratulations to manager Niall Abbot & his managent team and players who proved to be the worthy champions of our division. 9 points from their last 3 games scoring 16 goals against Limerick, Galway & Tralee Dynamos was championship winning form.

On a personal note I would like to thank Joby Costello, Eddie Duggan & Darko Ivkovic who stuck with this team all season. Their committment to the players & me all season was exceptional. To the parents of all the players for their support over the season and especially those who provided transport for the many games we played all over the country.
